Our event seminar leader is Captain Roger Walker, who brings more than 50 years of hands-on experience to our audience. Roger has fished the local waterways most of his life, a passion which was ignited at the age of 13 when he caught his first kingfish from the old Jacksonville Beach Pier. After several years, he moved into to shark fishing, was part of the inaugural Jacksonville Beach Shark Fishing Club and eventually became its president. His personal best was a 12’2” dusky shark weighing over 600 lbs.
After investing in his first boat, Roger moved from pier fishing to enjoying the freedom of the ocean. Honing his skills on kingfish and tarpon, he turned his passion into a highly successful 33-year career as a licensed charter captain.
Over the years, Roger has fished and competed in many tours and local tournaments including the SKA Open and Pro Divisions, as well as the FLW Pro Series. He has earned top finishes in the SKA Nationals including second and fourth place finishes, respectively.
Besides his considerable time on the water, he’s also given back to the local sportfishing community. He is a two-time president of the Jacksonville Offshore Fishing Club and, for seven years, wrote a popular fishing column in the Beaches Leader. For 25 years, he has served as co-host of Florida Sportsman Magazine Live!
