Wilmington River
Stretching over 17 miles along Savannah’s eastern edge, the Wilmington River is a popular waterway for boaters who love a mix of scenic cruising and excellent fishing. The river winds through marshes, residential areas, and coastal estuaries, eventually flowing into Wassaw Sound and the Atlantic Ocean near Cabbage Island—one of the region’s favorite fishing hotspots.
Fishing opportunities here are plentiful. Upstream, you’ll find freshwater species like crappie, bowfin, bluegill, catfish, and largemouth bass, perfect for casual anglers and families. As you move closer to the coast, the water turns salty, bringing in King Mackerel, bluefish, cobia, and other ocean-going game fish. The lower river near the sound is also a prime area to spot sharks, dolphins, and other marine wildlife, so keep an eye out!
Savannah River
The Savannah River flows from Lake Hartwell in the north, all the way through downtown Savannah, before reaching the Atlantic Ocean. As it winds its way south, the river forms much of the natural border between Georgia and South Carolina, offering boaters miles of scenic views and access points.
This river is a favorite for both freshwater and saltwater anglers, thanks to its diverse ecosystem. With over 110 species of fish reported, you’ll find Brown and Rainbow Trout in the cooler, northern stretches near the lake. As the water warms up farther south, bass, tarpon, and catfish become more prevalent, especially around Savannah, where the river meets tidal influence. Whether you’re casting a line, exploring its historic banks, or cruising past the city skyline, the Savannah River offers a boating experience that blends nature and culture.
Tybee Beach
For boaters looking to get out on the Atlantic Ocean, Tybee Beach on Tybee Island is a top destination. With several well-maintained docks, boat ramps, and fishing areas, it’s a great launch point for everything from shoreline casting to deep-sea fishing. Whether you're chasing kingfish, cobia, red drum, or just enjoying a cruise along the coast, Tybee offers easy access to the open water.
One of the most popular boating spots is a sandbar between Tybee and Little Tybee Island. This area is perfect for anchoring, swimming, and socializing—especially during low tide when the sandbar is fully exposed. After a day on the water, boaters can dock and explore Tybee’s laid-back beach town, with its local restaurants, shops, and historic lighthouse. Tybee Beach combines the best of ocean boating, fishing, and coastal charm all in one place.
Whether you’re casting lines in the Wilmington River or heading out to Tybee Island for offshore adventure, Yamaha Marine Center of Jacksonville is here to help. From high-performance fishing boats to family-friendly pontoons and certified boat service, we’re proud to offer Savannah boaters the selection, service, and expertise they deserve—all just a quick trip down I-95.
