Boater’s Guide to Game Day: EverBank Stadium and Jaguars Games
As a Jacksonville boat dealer, we know that there’s nothing quite like combining two of our favorite activities: boating and football. Cruise down the St. Johns River on a sunny gameday and make your way to EverBank Stadium to cheer on the Jacksonville Jaguars. It’s a quintessential Jax experience. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll navigate through everything you need to know to plan a successful day boating to EverBank Stadium for a Jags game.
Prep for Gameday
Before you embark on your trip to EverBank Stadium for the ultimate Jaguars gameday experience, there are several key steps to consider. Proper preparation ensures a smooth, enjoyable, and safe outing for you, your crew, and your fellow fans.
Check the Schedule and Plan Ahead
The first step in your trip to TIAA Bank Field is to consult the Jaguars’ schedule. Ensure that the game you want to attend aligns with your boating plans. While this might seem obvious, it’s essential to avoid potential scheduling conflicts that could dampen your gameday spirit. Once you’ve confirmed the game date, start planning early.
Boat Preparation
Your boat is your trusted companion on this journey, so it’s crucial to make sure it’s in tip-top shape. Ensure that the engine, electronics, and navigation equipment are all in working order. Schedule a maintenance check at Yamaha Marine Center if needed. Double-check your safety equipment, including life jackets, fire extinguishers, flares, and first-aid kits. Make sure they are within easy reach and up to date. Fuel up your boat, and bring extra fuel containers if necessary. Stock up on provisions, including drinks, snacks, and any personal items you might need during the day. If you find yourself in need of boat repair or service, call Yamaha Marine Center! We’ll get your boat in working order before kickoff.
Weather Check
Jacksonville’s weather can be unpredictable, so it’s essential to stay informed about the conditions. Check the weather forecast for game day and the days leading up to it. Keep an eye out for any potential storms or adverse weather conditions that could affect your trip. The start of football season and the height of hurricane season often coincide. It’s always wise to have a plan in case the weather takes an unexpected turn.
Game Tickets and Required Documentation
Before you set sail, make sure you have all the necessary documents and permits. This includes your game tickets, boating license, vessel registration, and proof of insurance. Keep these documents in a secure, waterproof container to prevent damage. Make sure you have them on hand and know where they are when they’re needed.
Boating to EverBank Stadium
Next, let’s talk about where to dock your boat. Fortunately, Jacksonville offers several options, which makes it a convenient destination for boaters. In the Jaguar’s Fan Guide, they recommend calling the Jacksonville Dockmaster. They can provide up-to-date information on boat docking during home games.
The Metropolitan Park Marina is the closest to the stadium. It’s located along the St. John’s River south of EverBank Stadium. As the closest place to dock, it’s also the most popular. The City of Jacksonville asks boaters to register their vessel in advance. Note that the Metro Marina does not normally require reservations and spots are available to the public on a first-come, first-serve basis. However, reservations are needed during special events.
If the Metropolitan Park Marina is packed on gameday, don’t fret! There are plenty of other places to dock when boating to EverBank Stadium. The City of Jacksonville’s St. John’s Marina is another popular choice. Although, it’s less likely to be packed before the game as you’ll need to get a ride to the stadium from this one. You don’t need a reservation if you only plan to stay for a few hours, but it’s still a good idea to call in advance to ask about availability.
Pre-Game Eats and Drinks
After an early arrival to secure your slip, you might want to grab a bite and a drink before kickoff. Some Jags fans even prefer to gather in nearby restaurants and bars to watch the game on the small screen. Fortunately, Jacksonville has plenty of restaurant options accessible by boat.
Intuition Ale Works is a very popular local beer maker and taproom. Although they don’t have their own docks, they’re within walking distance from the Metro Marina. You can also easily walk to the stadium from this brewery and restaurant.
If you’d rather dock and view the game from the restaurant itself, Palms Fish Camp is a wonderful choice. This local seafood restaurant includes a waterfront dock on the Northside. They offer local catches, pizza, tacos, cocktails and stunning waterfront views.
South of the stadium, Wicked Barley in Mandarin is another popular place to dock, eat, drink and enjoy the game. Wicked Barley is a Jacksonville-local craft brewery with a full restaurant, taproom, full dock and covered outdoor patio. It’s also just across the river from Yamaha Marine Center of Jacksonville!
